Recommended Precautions When Cleaning and Disinfecting Vehicles

Regularly disinfecting vehicles, especially shared vehicles, can help minimize the spread of COVID-19.

Certain disinfectants containing too much Ethanol (Ethyl Alcohol) can discolor or otherwise damage vehicle surfaces.

Honda recommends cleaning vehicle surfaces with a mild dish soap and water, then use a disinfectant that contains between 60% – 70% Ethanol. Use of products containing more than 70% Ethanol risks damage to surfaces.

These methods are effective for cleaning and disinfecting according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Always apply disinfectants using a soft cloth. Never spray disinfectants directly on vehicle surfaces.

Other disinfectants, such as Isopropyl alcohol, ammonia and bleach, can also damage surfaces and are not recommended.
